English II-CP Course Introduction
Course Description:
Students will continue to develop their reading and writing skills, with special emphasis on themes (heroism, technology & society, prejudice & racism vs. innocence, lessons for life, fate, and loyalty vs. betrayal). In addition to learning the fundamentals of critical thinking and logic, students will research many different topics and time periods and engage in active discussion and activities. At least one novel study will be included in this course. Other descriptors include:
-improve composition skills by writing types of composition
-sharpen the conventions of writing through analysis of peers’ works
-revise writing with the help of peer evaluators
-strengthen the use of grammar and its functions within
-encourage better communication skills through the class discussion, small groups, activities, and presentations

Semester 1=Heroism (Anchor Text-Elements of Literature), Technology and Society (Anchor Text-Elements of Literature), Prejudice and Racism vs. Innocence (Anchor Text-To Kill a Mockingbird)
Semester 2=Lessons for Life (Anchor Text-Elements of Literature), Fate (Elements of Literature and A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Loyalty vs. Betrayal (Anchor Text-Elements of Literature and Arthurian Legends)
